Toward a Dualistic Growth? Population Increase and Land-Use Change in Rome, Italy

چکیده
The spatial mismatch between population growth and settlement expansion is at the base of current models urban growth. Empirical evidence increasingly required to inform planning measures promoting containment in context a stable (or declining) population. In these regards, per-capita indicators land-use change can be adopted with aim evaluating long-term sustainability urbanization processes. present study assesses variations Rome, Central Italy, five years (1949, 1974, 1999, 2008, 2016) final objective quantifying Originally specialized agricultural productions, Rome’s metropolitan area paradigmatic example dispersed Mediterranean basin. By considering multiple dynamics, landscape delineated three distinctive waves corresponding urbanization, suburbanization, more mixed stage counter-urbanization re-urbanization impulses. reflecting different socioeconomic contexts on local scale, fabric forests were identified as ‘winner’ classes, expanding homogeneously over time expense cropland. Agricultural landscapes experienced heterogeneous trend arable land pastures declining systematically fragmented classes (e.g., vineyards olive groves) displaying slightly increasing) trends. continuous reduction surface cropland that’s supports reduced production base, which now insufficient satisfy rising demand for fresh food indicates unsustainability development Rome generally whole basin, region traditionally (proximity) productions.

Growth Management Policy and Land Use Change
The impact of growth management policy through zoning ordinances on land-use and -cover change is a topic of increasing interest, especially with regard to urban sprawl and forest and agricultural land preservation. As urban and residential land use is quickly replacing extractive land use in southern Indiana, implementation of growth management policy has become a topic of great debate. This a...
متن کاملThe SLEUTH Land Use Change Model: A Review
Land use change is driven by interaction in space and time between humans and the environment that can be captured by computer simulation models (Veldkamp and Verburg, 2004). In the last few decades, land use change models have played an important role in understanding the causes, mechanisms and consequences of land use dynamics. SLEUTH is an open source cellular automata based land use change ...
متن کاملLand cover land use mapping and change detection analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing
Land cover/land use categories are relevant components in land management. Understanding how land cover/land use change over time is necessary to assess the consequences of humans and natural stressors on the earth’s environment and resources. The aim of the study was to map and monitor the spatial and temporal change in land cover/land use for the periods of 1977, 1991 and 2016 and to predict ...
متن کاملToward Optimal Calibration of the SLEUTH Land Use Change Model
SLEUTH is a computational simulation model that uses adaptive cellular automata to simulate the way cities grow and change their surrounding land uses. It has long been known that models are of most value when calibrated, and that using backcasting (testing against known prior data) is an effective calibration method. SLEUTH’s calibration uses the brute force method: every possible combination ...
متن کاملModelling Land use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry in Climate Change: A Review of major Approaches
The rapid development of climate policies and the need to understand the dynamics of climate change have highlighted and shaped the role of land use, land-use change and forestry dynamics (LULUCF), making it an issue of global importance. As a consequence, LULUCF has become a central topic in economic theory and in environmental sciences. The attention is focused on creating and expanding compr...
